On using a personal computer for work presentations

I learned a very important lesson this morning.

While training some teachers for our curriculum, Derek, one of my coworkers was advancing the Powerpoint presentation slides for me on the computer - my personal laptop computer I brought from home. Seeing as my computer is often used for - ahem - personal endeavors, I did a quick clean-up of the desktop, 'net history, etc., just to cover my bases and make sure my more prurient interests wouldn't be displayed on a nine foot tall projection screen in front of a few teachers, a couple of coworkers, and my boss.

So... Internet history cleared? Check. Desktop wallpaper changed to an innocent picture of the Chicago skyline? Check. "Porn" label on my Favorites folder changed to read "Bills and Banking?" Check.

Disc removed from DVD drive? Ummm... not so much with the check.

So, Derek accidentally hit the eject button and promptly shut the drive. Five seconds later, the projection screen changed to display my DVD player controls. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest as my mind raced to remember exactly what I had last watched on the computer. And then it happened, right in the middle of my presentation on condom use.

"Thank you for being a friend
Travel down the road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant."

Yep, I had left one of my Golden Girls Season One DVDs in the drive the other night. Never before have I been more thankful to see the beginning credits to a sitcom.
